Tackling Life Head On
After a Near Fatal Car Accident

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jane Buckley never expected a single moment to change the course of her life.

A physiotherapist who travelled to seven Paralympic Games, including serving as Medical Director for the Australian Team at Sydney 2000, Jane built a career defined by service, sport and resilience.

But a devastating car accident in 1997 forced her to see life through a very different lens.

In Accidental Life Lessons, Jane reflects on unexpected detours, hard-won growth, and the powerful mindset shifts that emerge from adversity. She believes we always have a choice in how we respond to life’s challenges — and that sometimes our greatest lessons arrive uninvited.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jane Buckley grew up in the leafy suburbs of Brisbane as the middle child of seven children. Life was always full, and family played a pivotal role in shaping her values and, ultimately, her career path.

Jane has enjoyed a rich and varied career across healthcare, sport and education. She travelled as a physiotherapist with the Australian Paralympic Team to five Paralympic Games, including serving as Medical Director for the Australian Team at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. She later worked at two further Paralympic Games as Chief Classifier for Swimming for the International Paralympic Committee. In 2003, Jane developed the first theoretical online course for swimming classification — many components of which are still used internationally today.

A passionate advocate for communication and personal growth, Jane has been an active member of Toastmasters since 2010. She has won multiple speech competitions and is regularly invited to speak for community and non-profit organisations. Mentoring others to become confident, authentic communicators remains one of her greatest joys.

A devastating car accident in 1997 — the catalyst for this book — unexpectedly diverted Jane’s professional path, opening doors to new degrees, interests and opportunities she may never otherwise have pursued.

A firm believer that we always have a choice in how we view life’s highs and lows, Jane shares her “accidental” life lessons with honesty, insight and a sprinkling of humour.
